Hello Nicholas,

few years ago you had WIP code for lpfc TM / tcm_lpfc.
Any plans to resurrect it?

Hi Sebastian,

If it's an option for you, our OneCore Storage SDK is available on
the Emulex developer portal -- you'll need to sign up to get access.
(http://my.emulex.com/products/onecore-storage-sdk/). Version
5.2 of the SDK should be available any day now. It contains an
LIO/TCM driver in Tech Preview that has been tested with the 3.15
kernel.

Thanks,
Alex

AFAIK the OCS SDK drivers are proprietary and only support SLI-4.
Unfortunately I got 8 GBit SLI-3 HBAs. Is it possible to upgrade those
from SLI-3 to SLI-4?
Does the new version change anything regarding licensing or SLI support?

You're correct on both. However, this will change to an MIT like
license in our next release (though still not GPL). Does that change
anything for you? And I'm afraid you cannot upgrade an SLI-3 HBA
to SLI-4. 8G SLI-4 HBAs are available, however.

Alex

do you know whether this MIT like license will be GPL compatible?

Are there any options for target mode with SLI-3 HBAs beside lpfc_scst?

TBD. It's an outstanding question that we are discussing at this point.
GPL compatible is a must then for you?

Not at this point. If there were a compelling opportunity to support
SLI-3 with our OneCore Storage SDK drivers, we might consider that.
At this point, our SLI-4 opportunities are keeping us more than busy.

Thanks,
Alex

I think legal "uncertainties" could be avoided if the driver would be GPL
compatible (Dual MIT/GPL). It should allow upstream inclusion and Linux
distributions could pick it up. The driver would no longer taint the kernel
or invalidate support contracts.

Making your existing customers happy could be such an opportunity ;)
None of the three server vendors I checked did offer Advanced-8 8GB HBAs.
The QLogic driver on the other hand still supports my old 4GB HBA.

AFAIK, there are no plans by Emulex to push their target driver
upstream.
